Get Easy Access to Your Accessories

I've found that storing accessories in individual pouches and mini drawers can be a hassle, especially when you're in a rush getting dressed in the morning! Jewelry hangers, hanging rings and mesh boards, on the other hand, can look really messy and tend to become an eyesore, especially when you own a wide range of items.

Simple organizers like clear compartmentalized trays can do the trick. You can see everything at one glance, provided that you don't pile too much stuff in one compartment. Find them at department stores and hardware stores.

Another idea is using old bowls, cups and saucers, which you can place in a velvet- or felt-lined drawer to avoid sliding or rattling, as Martha Stewart suggests. I think they also make nice bedroom decor. You may opt to stash a few of your frequently worn pieces in a couple cups or saucers on your dresser.

When traveling, a roll-up accessory organizer is a good option. Local department stores offer roll-up pouches with clear zipped pockets which I find very easy to use.

Style Chameleon

photo credit: Yukari Galindez's Facebook page

Who: Stylist, makeup artist and fashion designer-in-the-making Yukari Galindez
The Look: I know I usually post photos of only one outfit for each City Streets entry, but today I'm making an exception. Plus, I didn't exactly spot Yuka on the street; I caught her on Facebook where she has just launched her personal page. These are only a few of her outfit shots that caught my eye, and they sure span a wide style spectrum!

I've known Yuka since our cheerleading days in high school, and even then she was already so chic! That's why I was so excited to hear that she is pursuing fashion design and is now on her last year at the Fashion Institute of the Philippines.

I know she'll have an amazing career ahead of her!

The Snack Attack: Triple Threat, Triple Treat

Sebastian's Snack Attack Dive Bar, Chilly Burger and Artisanal Ice Cream
Sebastian's Ice Cream, SM North EDSA The Block (see the list of other branches here)
I already blogged about the Snack Attack Dive Bar but I just had to add it to this entry along with the Chilly Burger and Ice Cream versions, which are just pure salty-sweet heaven.

The Snack Attack Dive Bar is brown butter ice cream dipped in caramel, while the Snack Attack Chilly Burger is vanilla ice cream with a salted caramel center sandwiched in between two large butter cashew cookies. Both are rolled in chocolate-covered potato chips, peanut butter-covered pretzels, and honey roasted peanuts. The ice cream cup is similar to the Chilly Burger minus the cookies.

If I had to choose my top pick, it would have to be the Dive Bar, but all three are my favorites at Sebastian's!

Chic Under Pressure

Who: MEGA Assistant Editor Sarah Santiago, directing the shoot for the March 2012 MEGAWOMAN feature
The Look: Comfy basics glammed up with the fiercest shoes

I swear these were both candid shots! I love that the photos show how cool and collected Sarah is, because I've always admired her poise! She looked fresh and fabulous (on a working Saturday, at that!) clad in a sweater from Forever21, a Uniqlo oxford shirt, Topshop denim shorts, and Betsey Johnson leopard print heels.

Sarah pointed out that she doesn't normally wear heels during shoots, especially when she needs to "walk around, climb stairs or stand for long hours," but chose to slip into this pair that day because she stepped out sans makeup. "I wanted people to notice my shoes and ignore the heavy bags under my eyes. And I guess it worked," she laughed. "Women are so easily distracted!"

I sure didn't notice any such thing!

Behind the Scenes at the March 2012 MEGAWOMAN Shoot

Last February, I posted a teaser about my feature on supermom Grace Barbers-Baja, who fit right into the theme of MEGA's "Power Issue" this month. Here are some stories and snapshots from behind the scenes.

Photographer John Ocampo and MEGA Assistant Editor Sarah Santiago, who acted as art director, were hard at work that weekend. Both the interview and the shoot took place in Grace's home one Saturday in January. Verna Marin did her makeup, while Avril Seguin styled her hair.

The interview was a breeze as Grace spoke candidly about her life as a full-time hands-on mom, and how she makes sure that her family lives a very active, healthy lifestyle, with exercise and meals packed with fruits and veggies as part of their regular routine. She also shared stories about her travels and how she and her husband Lauro, both "big foodies," keep lists of restaurants to try in every country.

Grace also treated us to a peek into her wardrobe and beauty boudoir, which were full of things that made our hearts flutter. In one corner of the living room was a rack of dresses and gowns in classic solids, sophisticated prints, and a variety of luxurious textures--the perfect selection for the shoot. She showed her perfume picks and makeup favorites, but noted that her daily beauty regimen only includes the basics, like sheer powder and lip balm.

As seen in MEGA

Her bags and shoes were also a sight to behold, with timeless pieces from the best ateliers. I was crushing on her delicate gold Prada clutch and CÉLINE luggage bag in black and brown! While Grace loves to shop, she is very discerning in choosing items, buying only what she really likes and what looks good on her. She is obviously no fashion victim, judging by her exquisite choices.

Grace also could not contain her excitement as she shared how she loves shopping for her one-year-old daughter, Alessandra. "When we found out that we were having a girl, we were ecstatic and over the moon! I started buying clothes as early as the fourth month of my pregnancy. It wasn't even 100 percent confirmed but I [was] like, for sure na 'yan, it's a girl!" Grace gushed, adding that she bought clothing for ages zero to 12 months when she was pregnant, and clothes for ages 12 to 24 months after she gave birth. These days she's buying clothes for when her little princess turns three. "Now Alessi's closet is bigger than mine!" she laughs.

After about five hours of six outfit changes and hair and makeup retouches in between, it was a wrap!

Read more about Grace Barbers-Baja in the March 2012 issue of MEGA magazine, now out on newsstands.

Fiercely Feline

The Spring 2012 runways of Giorgio Armani, Dolce & Gabbana and Jonathan Saunders are among those that brought out fiercely feline lids with the perfect cat eye eyeliner.

Great tools that can be used to achieve this look are the Bobbi Brown Long-wear Gel Eyeliner and the Etude House Code B Strong Eyes Cream Liner, which I both blogged about last year

I got myself another pot of the cream liner a few months ago, but I also got to try a new product that's just as long-lasting, but even easier to use: The Face Shop's Face It Extreme Brush Pen Eyeliner.

This pen guarantees smooth application and gives you the option to use finer strokes. So if you love experimenting with different ways of lining your eyes, this is the product for you.

Just a few swipes of trusty smudge-proof black liner and you'll be just purr-fect!

The Launch of DiorMag

February 29, 2012 marks the launch of DiorMag via Dior.com, a digital magazine to feature the history of la maison Dior as well as exclusive stories on its past, present and future collections.

I think this is a great way for the brand to reach out and appeal to the younger set even more. I just hope the content would pack more punch while maintaining Dior's polished, sophisticated sensibilities.
