Sand and Shimmer

Summer in Manila may be over but I'm taking a part of the beach with me with some Orly Sand Castle polish on my toes!

I was actually looking for Country Club Khaki but it was still sold out, then I was tempted to wait around for Hangin' Loose from the MAC Surf, Baby! collection--which the brand describes as an awesome "dirty pink nude"--but I finally decided to go with this shimmering beige polish. No regrets! This shade goes with everything.

I think it's good to shell out a little more for good nail lacquer because they last longer and go on very smoothly. They're also highly pigmented so you get full, beautiful coverage in just a couple coats. Plus, I'm finally learning how to do my own nails like a pro (well, I'm almost there!) so I don't have to go to a nail salon often to get the perfect mani or pedi!

Diane Does It Again

I am definitely digging Diane von Furstenberg's Resort 2012 collection, with its play on prints, sweet, feminine dresses, and easy silhouettes in a mix of summer brights and classic black and white.

Scroll down and drool.

And these are just some of my favorites. I find the unexpected pop of coral such a treat.

More on Mascara: Get Natural-looking Lush Lashes with Clinique

I got a couple tubes of the Clinique High Impact Mascara for free the last time I bought the brand's skin care system, but I've only been able to use it yesterday. I love how it makes my lashes longer and a little thicker minus the clumps. It's very natural-looking like the L'Oreal Clean Definition Telescopic Mascara, but it's not as difficult to remove.

This mascara really works best after curling your lashes because the brush is straight and thick. For that, I recommend Shu Uemura's eyelash curler. I haven't tried other brands since I started using Shu,though, and it has probably been over five years! You might want to test other curlers first to find the perfect one for you.

Elle Fanning: Unlike Any Other Tween Idol

Today's tween set has found a peer idol in thirteen-year-old Elle Fanning, who can go glam and play dress-up for the cam without eliciting disapproving comments from moms and dads!

She looks sophisticated and ladylike in Marie Claire's July issue...

...and goes from playful to elegant in BlackBook magazine shot by photographer Yu Tsai.

She also told Marie Claire that putting outfits together is the best part of her day. She shares her love for clothes with her mom and her sister, award-winning actress Dakota.

With her chic wardrobe, eye for style, and relaxed but poised demeanor, Elle may well be the next big fashion icon.

Summer Kors

I've been meaning to blog about this all week. Resort 2012 collections are out!

The rainy season may be swooping in, but it's a good thing it always feels like summer in Manila. I've got new outfit pegs from the perennially feminine Tory Burch and sweet and structured Preen, but my favorite so far is the sassy surfer girl roundup from Michael Kors.

Inspired by the "ultimate city beach life" of Sydney, Kors had Oz (and a subdued Lady Gaga on vacay, if you ask me) written all over this collection, with a balanced mix of fluorescent brights, zebra prints and neutrals in relaxed silhouettes.

The swimsuits are just as fabulous and would look so chic with a body con mini for a beach/pool party.

Give me my old reliable blacks and whites with a fluorescent punch and I'm in!

The Emmas at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards: Short and Sweet

My favorite Emmas went for short and sweet numbers at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards. They balanced off the high hemlines with high necklines, and finished up their red carpet looks with sky-high pumps for a touch of sexy sophistication. Watson and Stone also kept their makeup to a minimum as they swept on some pinkish nude lipstick and emphasized their eyes with good ol' black eyeliner.

Très chic!

Galera Getaway

I wasn't able to hit the beach this summer until the end of May! It was difficult for me and my boyfriend to schedule another vacay because of our tight schedules, but we finally managed to squeeze in a quick trip to Puerto Galera in Oriental Mindoro.

From Alabang, we took a bus to Batangas Pier where we transferred to a boat. If you’re not too lazy to drive, you can also park your car at the pier.

Since the Father and Son Shipping Lines had two stopovers at other parts of the island, we were at sea for about an hour and a half. The ride was smooth, though, and I had fun looking out at the ocean and taking photos. Other passengers even brought snacks and played music. Unless you’re prone to seasickness, you’ll definitely enjoy the boat ride. Just make sure to wear really comfortable clothes—preferably shorts and a breezy top—because even if it’s windy it can get pretty hot.

I was surprised about how beautiful the beach was. It was my first time in Puerto Galera and I wondered how a place so popular and accessible can still be so nice and clean. There were little pebbles near the shore but the sand was quite fine.

There were also a lot of bars and restaurants serving fresh, delicious fare. I don't think there was a meal over 200PhP, and there was a wide variety of grilled meats and seafood, salads and other veggie dishes, and even all-day breakfasts! Fresh fruit shakes were also available in all of the restos and bars we dined at.

One of the best parts is that you can get a massage right on the beach. Masseuses in uniform tees with their names printed on them just walk along the shore carrying mats and oils so you won't be able to miss them. My masseuse, Shirley, was even kind enough to wait until my boyfriend and I finished up our little photo shoot. I got a massage while waiting for the sunset. It was amazing!

There was also a whole strip of affordable beach front hotels to choose from so looking for a place to stay was not a problem. Though we had online reservations, other tourists were just walk-ins. So if you're from Manila and thinking about getting a quick vacation minus the hassle of long bus rides or a plane ride, Puerto Galera is the perfect destination!
