Showstoppers

Lots of American Idol hopefuls bringing both mad pipes and fresh style to the show this year!

Here are some of my picks from the Milwaukee auditions.

Haley Reinhart

Scott Dangerfield

Jerome Bell

Thia Megia

I did not expect to like AI as much without Simon Cowell, but the cool and hilarious Steven Tyler-Jennifer Lopez-Randy Jackson trio works for me!

Cityscape: The CityLifeStylist's Travel Diary

MNL-DVO 2010

Since most of my recent travels have been for work, it never occurred to me to blog about them until now. Hopefully I'll find myself exploring the country (and other parts of the world!) a lot more this year, whether for work, school or leisure.

Blog entries tagged Cityscape by The CityLifeStylist will document my every escape from Manila. For now, I'll be backtracking to my 2010 trips to Baguio, Cebu and Davao. Here are a few of my souvenir shots.

Mercato Sunday #1: Wacky Bob's, Kenacotta and Empire Macarons

My friends have been raving about Mercato Centrale at Bonifacio Global City since late last year, but it was not until yesterday that I actually got to check it out. Now my boyfriend and I want to make Mercato a weekend habit!

Wacky Bob's Bulalo (NOTE: The owners plan to come out with a "buzzing new name" soon, so stay tuned for that!)

We arrived around 11:30 a.m. It was a warm, sunny day but that didn't stop us from having some piping hot bulalo from Wacky Bob's. One order is good for two and served with rice.

Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. The beef was tender and flavorful, and the broth wasn't very oily. I usually don't have a lot of soup when eating bulalo because it's typically too greasy, but this was not. Needless to say, it was dangerously good.

Empire Macarons
You know how much I love macarons, so for dessert, we had Empire Macarons. We were too late, though--the only flavors left were strawberry and white chocolate! They were both really good, but the strawberry was a little too sweet for me. I wish they had more of the white chocolate and pistachio left. Next time we'll drop by early in the morning!

Maltesers Panna Cotta at Kenacotta

Maltesers Panna Cotta at Kenacotta was the cherry on top of our visit. It was a perfect combination of creamy but light panna cotta and a generous topping of Maltesers.

Iced lemon water with mint at Kenacotta
Kenacotta also sells iced lemon water with mint, which was very refreshing. If you plan to indulge your sweet tooth at Mercato, I recommend that you take a glass of this with you to cleanse the palate in between dessert stalls!

There are still so many other dishes and desserts we'd love to try. We'll definitely be back soon!

Colorful Kate

Bryce Dallas Howard looks adorable in this behind-the-scenes video from Kate Spade New York's Spring 2011 campaign shoot. I fancy the second outfit best, which combines neutrals with pops of vibrant color.

Wow, Isaw!

Ah, college memories. Nothing in Katipunan topped the street food in the UP Diliman campus, which was why my friends and I made the extra effort to drive or take a jeepney for a good food trip at UP. Chicken and pork isaw at Mang Larry's were--and continue to be--popular favorites.

Pair 'em with spicy vinegar and I doubt if you can stop at less than five sticks!

Neutral Territory

Donna Karan's Spring 2011 muses Karlie Kloss and Abbey Lee strike a pose in luxurious draped ensembles paired with wooden platform heels and chunky bangles--all in sandy shades of brown and beige.

Elie Tahari also sends neutral-clad models down his Spring 2011 runway with touches of yellow and gold to liven up the palette.

Yves Saint Laurent, on the other hand, uses deep red lipstick and dark polish to add drama to nude unfussy dresses.

Lovely creations, timeless combinations.

All Covered Up at the Golden Globes

In a sea of cleavage-revealing dresses and prom-worthy strapless gowns at this year's Golden Globe Awards, these ladies' elegantly sexy numbers showed a striking contrast. Emma Stone, Anne Hathaway and Angelina Jolie flaunted their curves beautifully with class.

Bright Days Ahead

For Spring 2011, Fendi steps out of the shadows and into a bright and multichromatic runway. The vivid colors are balanced off with ladylike shapes and updated classics. Long flowing skirts seem to be creeping back into the scene this year, but I'm not sure it's a good idea to revisit my wardrobe circa 1999!

Trainspotting

Who: My classmate Imee P. still looking chic in the MRT after walking in the rain!
The Look: The classic white tee and blue jeans combination

Even after the rise of prints on prints and busier outfit trends, I've always loved everything matchy-matchy. I find matching outfits clean, fresh and easy on the eyes, just like Imee's minimalist look. Her white thong sandals, two-toned tote, and even her blue umbrella finish off her ensemble perfectly!
