Take Me Away

Getting sick during the holidays actually has its pros. I have more than enough sleep every night (and all throughout the day!) I also get to catch up on my reading (some Margaret Atwood and Khavn De La Cruz, woot) and watch movies in bed. I'm hoping this is the tail end of my cough/sore throat/colds because I really want a kickass New Year celebration before I go back to work!

Good thing this song has kept me in an extra cheery mood since I watched Easy A this morning. "I got a pocket, got a pocket full of sunshine!"

Emma Stone is now officially my girl crush. Love her wit, her voice and her whole look. Her outfits before and after her va-va-voom transformation in the movie were gorgeous.

Everything definitely deserved an A--from the best-fitting jeans ever paired with basic tank tops to the sexiest bustiers and hot wedges. I'm tempted to don a bustier with a big red "A" (le boyfriend's initial, heehee) but I guess I'll have to wait till Halloween.

Wishing you a pocket full of sunshine for every day of 2011!

I've been busy with work, school and business trips out of town the past few weeks, hence the lack of updates. It's been a blast, but I'm really happy to be home. I was able to shop for some presents in beautiful Baguio, Cebu and Davao, but there are still a few things I need to hunt for--and I've only got five days left!

So for now, I'll leave you with a quick post on Pocahontas-themed rings my sister and I wore last night. Got this feather connector ring in Baguio, something le boyfriend thinks will come in handy for self-defense! My sister, on the other hand, got this vintage-looking Indian chief ring from Chocolate Clothing Company. Very cool.

More updates soon.

Happy Holidays, y'all!

White Ladies

All white's all right on the Collette Dinnigan Spring 2011 runway, with models in feminine frocks that are easy on the eyes. With some cute eyelet and romantic lace here and a bit of whimsical tulle and sparkle there, it looks like a wardrobe fit for a fairy princess.

Pick Your Quick Fix for Halloween

With this year's Halloween parties being held on the 29th or the 30th, you're probably in panic mode right now if you still don't have a costume! Here are a few quick fixes that'll get you party-ready in no time.

Nab Dianna Agron and Lea Michele's feisty looks in this month's GQ. The preppy schoolgirl is given a sexy twist with cropped tees and cardis, pleated minis, hot pants and sky high pumps with socks.

Dare to get some bangs, then don a powder blue dress, a bow in your hair and ballet flats and be Summer Finn for a night.

Get your guy to throw on a button-down shirt, a v-neck sweater, a tie and chinos a la Tom Hansen, and voila--instant couple costume. Headphones optional!

An even cuter costume for the guys is Jack Black's modern take on Lemuel Gulliver. All they need is a tee, a hoodie, cargo shorts and sneakers, plus some rope with a bunch of little plastic men attached!

Round up your girlfriends for a 90s flashback group costume--the Spice Girls! Are you Baby, Ginger, Scary, Sporty or Posh?

Enjoy the long Halloween weekend, y'all!

A Flair for Menswear

Don't you just love the classic, unfussy designs of menswear that stand the test of time? Unfortunately, loose trousers and masculine shoes don't go very well with my petite frame, but I do get to play dress-up with men's bags and accessories, as well as loose shirts and boyfriend cardis (cinched at the waist, of course, or I'd drown in them!)

As a weekend treat, here are some looks from New York Fashion Week that the ladies can cop from the fashionable gents on and off the runway.

I'm not a fan of that man bag, but everything else looks nice and laid-back. I would wear the shabby chic hat to the beach and the braided belt over breezy dresses or an oversized button-down shirt, like the ones below:

The longer the shirt, the better! A longer one is more versatile 'cause it can be tucked into jeans or shorts, paired with leggings, or worn as a belted dress.

In this outfit, it was the gray and black v-neck sweater that caught my eye. I'd throw it over a crisp white oxford shirt for work.

You might catch yourself wishing for a bad hair day just to get an excuse to wear a cool hat like his.

That leather envelope clutch looks so soft and pretty, though a messenger bag made of the same buttery material would be more practical but just as gorgeous.

Love the shoes, but I doubt if I can pull them off. A pair of more ladylike oxfords in nude would be a good alternative.

I find browsing GQ just as fun as leafing through Preview, Elle and Vogue!

The Cubao X Factor

photo credit: Faye Yoingco and Therese San Diego

Who: Me with one of my fave gals Faye Y after a late lunch at Cubao X, one of the best places in town for great food, quirky fashion and everything funconventional.
The Look: Layered wardrobe staples and comfy footwear are great for laid-back weekends!

My idea of easy dressing involves breezy cotton tube dresses and Havaianas. Cinched my waist with a black belt, threw on a long leopard print cardigan in gray and black, and picked up a black tote to pull the outfit together.

Faye looks comfortably chic (and sexy!) in a gray tank, boyfriend jeans, loafers and a matching bag. Her blue and white striped cardi gives a nautical twist to her semi-androgynous ensemble, while her pearl necklace adds a touch of ladylike charm.

Fierce Finds

Channel your inner rock goddess with these pieces that'll give a tough edge to your wardrobe.

The Circle of Life earrings can glam up your weekend looks, whether paired with your casual shirts and jeans or your date night little black dress.

We all have our blah days when we feel out of it or can't seem to find anything to wear. Connector rings like these Skull Knuckle Crushers and Rocker Studs are instant pick-me-uppers that'll give you that much-needed boost. Throw on your easiest, never-fail outfit (that's either a black T-shirt dress or a black top and denim shorts in my case!) and you're good to go.

The Pendulum Perfection necklace would complement your ring of choice. You can also take the ladylike route, pairing it with simple stud earrings.

Statement necklaces Alice in Chains and Shapely Glamour will add spunk to your solids. Avoid prints that'll make your ensemble look too busy. Then again if you're comfortable with the outfit and feel like you can carry it well, go for it!

Check out Beppy for more fab finds and details on how to order.

Cuff Remedy

My work and school schedule's more packed than ever, and these days I don't have the luxury of fussing over accessories. This is why the cuff is my new best friend. It can easily finish off an outfit, which is perfect when you're always on the go.

One Piece Wonders, One Hit Wonders

Rompers, playsuits, jumpsuits--whatever you want to call them--are cute and comfortable indeed. But don't let these one piece wonders fool you. Today I realized they can also be a major hassle. I found out when I went to the loo.

They're still great for quick trips, though, like supermarket stopovers. Hee.

Caffeine Alternative

Adam Levine is probably the only tattooed, small tee- and skinny jeans-clad fella I can ever swoon over. When coffee fails, a Maroon 5 video can perk me back up for late nights with the books.

Now back to regular programming!

Black Beauties

My friends and I have not only been raiding men's closets but their accessory bins as well, sporting our dads' (and even granddads'!) big, bold timepieces. That's why when I spotted these dark and even more versatile versions of our current obsessions, they easily made it to the top of my lust list.

Greece Lightning

I've been either too busy or too lazy to chronicle my meals, hence the lack of The CityLifeStylist Eats updates. Good thing I managed to take a few shots during my recent trip to Cyma at TriNoma.

This was not my first time at the Greek resto, but I'm only reviewing it now because this time I actually remembered to take photos before attacking the plates! I was dining with a friend, and we started with pita bread and Melitzanosalata, a mix of roasted eggplant, tomatoes, garlic, lemon and extra virgin olive oil. It tasted fresh and tangy, but you have to eat the bread right away 'cause it gets tough and tastes like cardboard when it cools.

We also shared the Watermelon and Lamb Salad, which had black olives, sunflower seeds, fresh mint and Feta cheese (served on the side because of my allergies.) I usually play it safe with chicken or beef because I get a little queasy at the thought of lamb, but I really enjoyed this. The combination of grilled lamb, watermelon and the minty summer herb vinaigrette was surprisingly refreshing.

We were already quite full because the servings were too big for us, but we just had to try the molten chocolate cake, Skolatina, served with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. It's crispy on the outside with gooey chocolate in the middle that made it a little too sweet. The crispy part combined with some caramel and ice cream, though, is heavenly.
