The Envelope, Please

They're not the easiest purses to carry around, but envelope clutches are worth the extra effort. This smooth YSL Y-Mail in black patent leather looks sophisticated, with scribbles that add a touch of quirk. I'm veering towards the not-so-literal ones, though.

Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) toted around a chic Prada clutch in this scene from Sex and the City that's big enough to hold all of your essentials.

Isaac Mizrahi's tan leather clutch from the Fall 2009 runway looks like something you can use for work. Instead of taking your whole bag or juggling your phone, wallet and keys when going out for lunch, just throw all of your valuables in a clutch and you're good to go.

You don't have to struggle with a teeny tiny clutch when you're partying. Grab something like the Balenciaga Arena Giant Envelope that looks compact but is roomy enough for your things. The black leather and silver hardware also lend a rockstar vibe.

I can't believe I spotted a gorgeous black envelope clutch in Ingrid Holm's blog, The Showmanship, which she bought at a department store here in Manila. It's amazing what one can find at our local department stores. I bet this only cost a few hundred pesos.

Just proves that you can get chic on any budget!
