Eyelet, Lace and the Little White Dress

Eyelet, Lace and the Little White Dress a.k.a the LWD have been all over the runways from Spring/Summer 2007 collections and how I love them. They're fresh, pretty and very cool on the eyes.

Eyelet tops and dresses in white will always be classic casual pieces. White eyelet tops look perfect with denim -- whether jeans, shorts or skirts. Dresses, (like the Milly dress shown above,) may look very plain and simple, but that's what makes it adorable. Your outfit wouldn't look boring with the right shoes, bag and accessories. You have a lot of choices here; it depends on your personal style and the look that you're going for.

Here are a few suggestions: For a funky look with a summer vibe, beaded accessories, espadrille wedges and a woven tote can do the trick. If you want a more sophisticated, polished look, white gold or pearl jewelry, a dainty handbag and ballet flats or kitten heels are very good options.

As opposed to Eyelet, Lace can make you look very dressed up. This is a little tricky because it's easy for us to go overboard with too much lace, (even for dressy occasions.) I suggest choosing a dress that's not completely made of lace, like the one pictured above where the white tube dress beneath the sheer lace is made of cotton. There are still "fully laced" dresses that can work, though, as long as it doesn't cover you up too much, such as strappy and tube dresses.

I have mentioned the Little Black Dress (a.k.a. the LBD) in a previous entry and how it's a must-have in every woman's closet -- now, I guess you'll have another dress to add to your wardrobe staples.

It's starting off as a trend right now, but I am going to make a fashion forecast. I predict that the LWD, like its dark predecessor, will be on the list of closet keepers. Take this Alya Sheath Dress from Rampage (see photo above). It's very simple, but you can do a lot with this dress. Remember: It's all about (here comes my favorite word again) versatility!

See if eyelet and lace works for you, and good luck on your search for the perfect LWD!
