Clean and Polished

Neat and clean -- that is how you should always keep your nails.

Some girls prefer to have unpolished nails. Some like their nails long and painted. I, however, prefer to leave my fingernails unpolished, but my toenails painted.

You don't even have to go to the salon for a manicure and a pedi. Save money by buying a bottle of nail polish and painting your nails at home.

Your nails say a lot about good personal hygiene. Ladies: take note that a lot of men check out your nails to see if you're, well, neat. This is why I always save the polish only for my toenails. Long, polished fingernails may look glamorous, but not only are they quite dangerous (as you might accidetally scratch your eyes with them) -- most men are also not very big fans of that trend. So trim those fingernails and keep them clean always!

As for your toenails, I think they're better off trimmed short, but polished. That way, even if you get your feet a little dirty after walking on the street in flipflops, they'll stay nice and pretty and won't look gross.

You can buy cheap nail polish at drugstores and department stores, but in my experience, they chip very easily. I suggest you buy polish of good quality so that you wouldn't have to keep painting your nails everyday.

You don't have to spend a fortune, either. Elianto has very nice shimmery (as well as a few shiny non-shimmery) nail polish sold at 99Php (about US$2.00) per bottle. The Face Shop also offers very cool, summer-y colors at 100Php. If you're willing to shell out a little bit more, check out the shimmery polish at Beauty Bar priced at 250Php (US$5.20). Sorry I wasn't able to note down the brand, but I'm sure you'll find it. (I was too busy testing the DuWop Lip Venom lip gloss, but I'm saving that for another entry! Watch out for that.)

Usually, my toenails are painted in neutral colors like beige or light metallic shades such as light gold and shimmery silver. For the summer, I'm going for more color -- some primary ones, perhaps? Red, yellow and blue would definitely look smashing on Havaianas-clad feet!

Happy painting, ladies!

Ooh... Yeah, red is very sexy. My mom even tells me that painting her toenails red gives her a boost. Heehee. A nail salon at Beauty Bar? Hmm. I'm going nail salon-hopping when I'm no longer broke ;) Heehee. Thanks for the tip, Val!
